Retirement With Interest
I gave a talk recently for Leicester Adult Education Centre, entitled "Places of Interest in Leicestershire".
This was part of a course that runs several times a year, to give advice to people who are approaching retirement.
Subjects discussed include pensions, insurance and health matters.
And then I come in to talk about fun!
The object is to demonstrate that there are plenty of interesting places which can be visited locally, without needing to break the bank on expensive trips abroad.
I pointed out, for example, that there are delightful parks in Leicester itself, especially Abbey Park and Victoria Park, and that other towns, notably Loughborough and Melton Mowbray, have excellent ones.
I spoke of two steam railways. Not only does the Great Central run between Leicester North and Loughborough Central, there is also the Battlefield Line near Market Bosworth, which can be boarded at Shenton or Shackerstone.
Those who love markets are well catered for. As well as Leicester Market, there are several excellent traditional market towns locally, namely Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Hinckley, Loughborough, Lutterworth, Market Bosworth, Market Harborough, Melton Mowbray, Oakham and Uppingham.
Obviously, I could go on for ever, but that gives an idea of the sort of things I highlighted.
If you are yourself coming up for retirement, why not ask your employer to get you enrolled on the course next time around.
