Welcome Talk for Saga Visitors to Leicester
I gave a talk recently for visitors to Leicester who were on one of Saga`s excellent week long holidays.
Visitors stay in the Halls of Residence of Leicester University, and I come in on the second night to give them an idea of the fascinating things to see in this ancient city, which is far less known than it should be.
So I tell them about Leicester`s Roman beginnings (the famous Jewry Wall is highly visible); the five mediaeval churches (including Leicester Cathedral); the lovely parks (including Abbey Park); and the fine collection of museums (including New Walk Museum and the amazing National Space Centre.
And of course I talk about the surrounding countryside and towns, including Loughborough (destination for Thomas Cook`s very first trip); Melton Mowbray (world famous for hand raised pork pies and Stilton cheese); Market Harborough ( where the Liberty Bodice was produced); and Market Bosworth (where Richard III lost his crown and his life).
A highlight for me is being able to meet people from all over the country. This time I was able to chat to visitors from Bristol; Dartford; Exeter: Rochdale; Stockport; Wembley; and Wimborne Minster.
Saga are running holidays in Leicester again in 2009. Why not book a place?
