The Shades of Night (A Guided Walk in Leicester)
“The Shades of Night” is a ghostly Guided Walk in Leicester devised and led by the well-known Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby, of Colin Crosby Heritage Tours.
These strolls are an ideal way of soaking up some Local History.
The walk starts outside the Welford Road Cemetery Gates, in Welford Road, beside the railway bridge.
Leicester is one of the oldest towns in England, and of course the local ghosts have had a long time to get themselves established.
This particular walk traverses some unusual haunted territory, including Victoria Park, pleasant to stroll round in the daytime but full of menacing shadows at night.
The New Walk area is touched on. New Walk is a unique Georgian walkway, constructed on the lines of the Roman road from Leicester to Colchester, and is not short of a phantom or two.
But the highlight of the walk is probably following the fence of the cemetery . The route does not enter the cemetery itself, but who knows whether some of its residents might creep over the wall and join the party?
Colin leads several other Haunted Walks in Leicester and the surrounding area, including “Haunted Leicester”, “The Haunted City”, “Walk in Dread”, “Tales for Halloween”, “Goosepimples” (with children in mind), “The Ghosts of Christmas” and “Haunted Belgrave”, and in London “Haunted London” and “The Haunted Capital”.
