Walk in Dread (A Guided Walk in Leicester)

“Walk in Dread” is a Guided Walk in Leicester devised and led by the well-known Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby, of Colin Crosby Heritage Tours.

These strolls are a most enjoyable way of soaking up some Local History.

There are so many ghosts, and so many ghostly areas, in the ancient town of Leicester that Colin has had to devise several different walks around different parts of the city.

The starting point for “Walk in Dread” is outside the Victorian Town Hall, itself a haunted building.

The route takes in New Walk, Leicester’s unique Georgian footway, which was laid out on the line of the Roman road linking Leicester, one of the oldest towns in England, with Colchester, which is actually the oldest.

Also included is what is essentially a Georgian New Town, added to Leicester in the 18th century, when the South Field was sold for development. From the start, this was regarded as a particularly ghostly area, with a number of hauntings, for example, in the elegant Georgian building known aa The Crescent.

Colin points out that ghosts do not always look like ghosts. They are not always dressed in Elizabethan or Victorian clothes – they might just as well be wearing jeans and trainers.

Are you sure that the one standing beside you is a real flesh and blood person?

Colin leads other ghostly walks in Leicester and the surrounding area – “Haunted Leicester”, “The Haunted City”, “The Shades of Night”, “Tales for Halloween”, “Goosepimples” (with children in mind), “The Ghosts of Christmas” and “Haunted Belgrave”, and in LondonHaunted London” and “The Haunted Capital”.
