Cathedral Fountain (Leicester)

[An image showing Cathedral Fountain]The Cathedral Fountain is a water feature in front of Leicester Cathedral, which stands in Peacock Lane in Leicester's Old Town, close to the Guildhall.

The old churchyard of the former St. Martin's church, which is now the cathedral, has been landscaped to provide a pleasant informal meeting place.

The cathedral itself is a mediaeval church, one of five surviving in the Old Town, and is on the site of a pre-Christian place of worship.

Inside the cathedral is a memorial to Richard III, who was buried nearby at the Grey Friars after losing his crown and his life at the Battle of Bosworth in Leicestershire.

There is also a memorial to Abigail Herrick, the mother of Jonathan Swift.

The Cathedral Fountain is used as the starting point for some of Colin Crosby's Guided Walks.
