Coalville
Coalville is a former mining town in North West Leicestershire.
Although Coalville is at the heart of the West Leicestershire coalfield, it did not exist as a town until the mid 19th century. The main settlements in the area were Donington-le-Heath, Hugglescote, Ravenstone, Swannington and Whitwick.
Coalville's rise to prominence came when the engineer George Stephenson bought land and opened the two Snibston collieries, one of which has now been converted into Snibston Discovery Park.
Today, with the mines closed, Coalville is at the heart of the National Forest.
Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby is available to lead Guided Walks around Coalville for groups.
