Celebrate Hoskins Centenary
2008 marks the centenary of the birth of W. G. Hoskins.
Hoskins was a professor at Leicester University, and is widely credited with the creation of local and landscape history as a serious academic subject for study.
He wrote many books on this sort of subject, including the hugely influential "Making of the English Landscape" in 1955.
Much of his study was carried out in Leicester itself and in Leicestershire, including in particular a study of Wigston Magna.
In Hoskins' centenary year, I have a number of Coach Trips available around the Leicestershire and Rutland area, for groups who would like to see the part of England which inspired his studies.
The area includes outstanding market towns such as Market Harborough, Melton Mowbray and Oakham, delightful villages such as Hallaton and Billesdon, and a number of deserted mediaeval villages, including Hamilton and Ingarsby.
Feel free to get in touch if you feel that your group would benefit from such a tour.
