Swithland Hall (Swithland)

Swithland Hall is the big house on the edge of the Charnwood Forest village of Swithland in Leicestershire.

The original house was the home of the Danvers family. This burned down in 1822.

The present house was built by Sir James Pennethorne for the Earl of Lanesborough, partially occupied from 1834 and completed in 1852.

In the grounds stands the old Market Cross of Mountsorrel, which was moved to here by Sir John Danvers and replaced by the well known Butter Cross.
