Beacon Hill
Beacon Hill is a beauty spot and viewpoint which is part of the miniature mountain range of Charnwood Forest in Leicestershire.
It is situated a little to the North of Woodhouse Eaves in the centre of the forest. It stands 818 feet above sea level.
There are extensive views across Loughborough and Nottingham and into the Lincolnshire Wolds. It is said that on a clear day Lincoln Cathedral can be seen.
On Beacon Hill was a hill fort, first constructed during the Bronze Age around 2000 BC.
The name derives from its having housed one of a chain of beacons during the Napoleonic Wars.
