Carols and Their Stories (A Guided Walk in Mountsorrel)
Carols and Their Stories" is a special Guided Walk for the Christmas season devised and led by Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby, of Colin Crosby Heritage Tours.
Colin`s walks are an enjoyable way of learning some Local History.
The starting point for the walk is Stonehurst Farm, on the old A6 at Mountsorrel.
During the walk, Colin looks at the stories behind everybody`s favourite Christmas carols.
"Away in a Manger", "The First Noel", "God Rest You Merry Gentlemen", "Good King Wenceslas", "Hark the Herald Angels Sing", "O Come All Ye Faithful", "Silent Night", "We Three Kings", "While Shepherds Watched" .... all these and more have fascinating backgrounds.
Some were written by famous poets or famous composers, while others were composed under unusual circumstances.
And all this is discussed during a walk around the delightful village of Mountsorrel, still famous for its Butter Cross and its granite.
Colin also leads other walks especially for Christmas, including "Deck the Halls", "Mediaeval Leicester at Christmas", "The Holly and the Ivy", "The Ghosts of Christmas" and "Who is Santa Claus?"
"Ding Dong Merrily on High" is a talk on similar theme, much in demand by groups in the run up to Christmas.
