Visiting Churches and Cathedrals
Those of you who like visiting historic churches and cathedrals will find many of my Coach Trips of great interest.
Coming up this year are
Saturday 26 March "Ripon" Very fine mediaeval cathedral, with Anglo-Saxon crypt built by St. Wilfrid.
Saturday 30 April "Welsh Marches Tour" At Ludlow, excellent parish church, and circular chapel in castle. At Hereford, very fine mediaeval cathedral.
Wednesday 11 May "Spalding and Peterborough" At Peterborough, very fine mediaeval cathedral. Burial place of Catherine of Aragon.
Saturday 28 May "Maldon and the Dengie Hundred" At Bradwell-juxta-Mare, astonishing survival of church built about 650 AD by St. Cedd. At Maldon, parish church has unique triangular tower.
Wednesday 22 June "Suffolk Coast Tour". At Southwold, superb parish church.
Friday 15 July "Lichfield" Very fine mediaeval cathedral, with three spires.
Saturday 24 September "Sandwich" Three mediaeval churches.
Saturday 29 October "New Forest Tour" At Lyndhurst, wall painting by Lord Leighton. At Christchurch, priory church is often mistaken for a cathedral.
Saturday 26 November "Gloucester" Very fine mediaeval cathedral. Burial place of Edward II. Birthplace of Robert Railkes, instigator of Sunday Schools; and George Whitefield, charismatic Methodist preacher.
