U3A Visit Barrow-upon-Soar
I was delighted recently to be asked to lead a private Guided Walk around Barrow-upon-Soar.
This was for the Soar Valley U3A (University of the Third Age), based around the Sutton Bonington area.
Barrow-upon-Soar (where my wife lived before we were married) is a charming village on the canal and of course the River Soar. It is on the border between the ancient granite of Charnwood Forest and the gentle Leicestershire Wolds.
A number of dinosaurs and similar creatures left fossils which were found in the lime workings here. One, an ichthyosaur, can now be seen in the New Walk Museum in Leicester.
I will be very pleased to lead a walk around the village for your own group.
