Super Weekend in Yorkshire
My wife Anne and I had a super weekend in Yorkshire recently, staying at the splendid Rendezvous Hotel at Skipton.
We travelled up on the Friday, stopping for coffee at Wetherby, and visited Spofforth, with its highly impressive but little known castle ruins, as well as the sheep in the churchyard.
The hotel, an excellent one, is beside the canal, which is overlooked by the restaurant in the conservatory.
On the Saturday, we rode on the famous Settle and Carlisle Railway, and stopped off at the delightful little market town of Appleby.
We spent the afternoon in Carlisle, visiting Carlisle Cathedral, Carlisle Castle and a mediaeval tithe barn.
On the Sunday morning, having packed to go home, we made our way to Malham, and viewed the fantastic Malham Cove.
Then it was back home to Leicester, stopping for coffee at Pontefract.
