Leicester to Light Up for Christmas
The famous Christmas lights of the City of Leicester, probably the best outside London, are to be switched on on Sunday 20th November.
The ceremony will be carried out by the city’s Lord Mayor, Councillor Mary Draycott, assisted by Father Christmas himself, who will arrive in a sleigh pulled by real reindeer.
The lights in the Haymarket Centre will be turned on at 3.30pm, followed by the rest of the city centre at 4.30pm in Town Hall Square.
All that afternoon, there will be entertainment in The Haymarket Centre and Humberstone Gate.
As usual, there will be Christmas lights in many of the main streets, including the High Street, Church Gate, Gallowtree Gate and Belvoir Street. For the first time, Cank Street and Silver Street in The Lanes area are being added.
Father Christmas will be in three grottoes, at Dominoes toy shop in the High Street, at Debenhams in The Shires and in Town Hall Square.
And you can take all this in during a Guided Walk called “Deck the Halls” on Wednesday evening 21st December.
