Church Street (Windsor)

Church Street is one of the attractive streets in the market area of the Royal town of Windsor, on the River Thames.

It runs parallel with the High Street, and between the two there is much market infill.

William Shakespeare is said to have written "The Merry Wives of Windsor" while staying at the Old King's Head.

Charles II purchased two neighbouring houses, Drury House and Burford House, for the use of his mistress Nell Gwynn, while he was in residence at Windsor Castle.

Opposite, the council have created a small and pretty garden on the site of demolished cottages.
