Kirby Muxloe Castle (Kirby Muxloe)
Kirby Muxloe Castle is apparently a ruined castle in the village of Kirby Muxloe in Leicestershire.
In fact it is not a ruin at all. The castle was being built by Lord Hastings, who started work in 1480. He was summarily executed in 1483 for plotting against Richard III, and work then ceased.
The castle, really a fortified manor house, is particularly interesting for its early use of brick. It has a moat and an impressive gatehouse.
It is in the care of English Heritage, as is another of the properties of Lord Hastings, Ashby-de-la-Zouch Castle.
