Rose and Crown (Houghton-on-the-Hill)

The Rose and Crown is a well known public house at Houghton-on-the Hill in Leicestershire.

It is situated on the edge of the village, and on the A47, the main road between Leicester and the attractive market town of Uppingham.

With a pleasant garden and aviary at the back, the Rose and Crown is one of the most popular pubs in the area, and probably the busiest along this particular road.

Rose and Crown is one of the most common names for pubs, and it is said that there are over sixty in London alone. It has been a popular name since the 17th century, and indicates loyalty, both to England and to the reigning monarch.

Some of Colin Crosby’s Guided Walks start outside the Rose and Crown at Houghton-on-the-Hill.
