Old Ingarsby (A Guided Walk in Ingarsby)

“Old Ingarsby” is a Guided Walk devised and led by Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby, of Colion Crosby Heritage Tours, giving the chance to see the site of the famous deserted village of Ingarsby.

These strolls are a most enjoyable way of soaking up some Local History.

The starting point is outside the Rose and Crown, the well known public house on the A47 Leicester to Uppingham road at Houghton-on-the-Hill.

Following footpaths across the rolling Leicestershire countryside, the route goes past a hillock, overgrown with nettles, which is the surviving motte of a castle dating from King Stephen’s lawless reign.

There is then a stroll through Old Ingarsby, one of England’s most spectacular deserted mediaeval villages, and a look at the 17th century Ingarsby Old Hall, before returning along the lane to the Rose and Crown.

Dates, costs and where to meet

A place on 'Old Ingarsby' costs £4.00 per person, or £3.00 if paying in advance. The guided walk begins at Rose and Crown, and is running on:
