Wool Market (Cirencester)
The Wool Market is a shopping development in the historic old town of Cirencester in Gloucestershire.
The mediaeval wealth of Cirencester, along with a number of other towns in the Cotswolds, came from the wool produced by the sheep who thrived in this part of the country.
It was this wealth that made possible such magnificent churches as the town's St. John the Baptist Church.
So it is natural that modern developments should celebrate the historical importance of wool.
The splendid ram statue adorns the Wool Market. It was unveiled by the novelist Joanna Trollope.
