Newtown Linford
Newtown Linford is a very picturesque village in Leicestershire, 6 miles from Leicester and in Charnwood Forest.
It was a "new Town" settled in the 13th century from Groby, at a ford over the little River Lin.
There are many highly photogenic houses and cottages, either timber framed, some with crucks, or made of the local Mountsorrel granite, and roofed with either thatch or the local Swithland slate.
The little All Saints Church dates back to the 14th century, and has arms of the Grey family alongside the Royal ones.
In the village is the main entrance to Bradgate Park, home in the 16th century of the ill fated Lady Jane Grey.
Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby is available to lead Guided Walks around Newtown Linford for groups.
