Fairford
Fairford is a small town in Gloucestershire, not far from the valley of the River Thames and not far from the Cotswolds. It is 8 miles from Cirencester, and stands on the pretty River Coln.
The High Street and Square are particularly attractive.
St. Mary's Church dates from the 15th century, and has a magnificent collection of 28 stained glass windows, illustrating Bible stories. It is by far the best such collection in England.
Fairford was the birthplace of the poet and cleric John Keble in 1792. Keble College at Oxford was named in his honour.
R.A. F. Fairford is noted today for its air shows. The British prototype Concorde was first tested here in 1969.
