Waterside Charnwood (A Guided Walk in Loughborough)
“Waterside Charnwood” is one of the very popular Waterside Walks devised and led by Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby, of Colin Crosby Heritage Tours.
These strolls are an enjoyable way of soaking up some Local History.
The starting point for this walk is Charnwood Water, the delightful man-made reservoir to the South of Loughborough town centre, which can be reached from Leicester Road via Beeches Road and Tuckers Road.
It is one of a number of Waterside Walks that Colin leads around Leicestershire and in London.
The walk begins with a stroll around the shore of Charnwood Water itself. It was created from a former brickfield, and is on the site of the lost mediaeval village of Shelthorpe.
Then, after crossing the Great Central Railway, it progresses across to the canal, and then continues back to the town, usually seeing lots of wildlife. It is along this stretch that the little Hermitage Stream crosses the canal.
Other Waterside Walks led by Colin include “Waterside Abbey Park”, “Waterside Aylestone”, “Waterside Belgrave”, “Waterside Birstall”, “Waterside Glenhills”, “Waterside Glen Parva”, “Waterside Hinckley”, “Waterside London”, “Waterside Loughborough”, “Waterside Loughborough and Barrow-upon-Soar”, “Waterside Market Harborough”, “Waterside Mountsorrel”, “Waterside Quorn and Barrow-upon-Soar”, “Waterside Thurmaston” and “Waterside West End”.
