Grave Attraction (A Guided Walk in Leicester)

[An image showing Grave Attraction]"Grave Attraction" is a Guided Walk devised and led by the well-known Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby, of Colin Crosby Heritage Tours.

These walks are an enjoyable way to soak up some Local History.

It is a walk around Welford Road Cemetery, Leicester's magnificent Victorian necropolis opened in 1849.

The starting point is Welford Road Cemetery Gates, on Welford Road, just over the railway bridge, a short distance from Leicester City Centre.

Colin devised this walk after being frustrated for some years because his "Welford Road Cemetery" walk, fascinating and popular though it is, necessarily misses out a lot of people because of lack of available time.

"Grave Attraction" is thus a sort of continuation. If you enjoy one, you will enjoy the other.

Among the fascinating people discussed on his walk are the lady in whose honour the Ethelfleda statue was erected, the man who was instrumental in getting one of the world's earliest railways built, the founder of a famous Leicester dynasty of architects and the man who originated the modern tourism business.

There is also discussion of the role of cemeteries, and Colin will point out some of the well-known landmarks around the city and county that can be seen from the cemetery.

In addition to the "Welford Road Cemetery" walk, Colin also leads a tour around Belgrave Cemetery.
