Donington-le-Heath (A Guided Walk in Donington-le-Heath)

“Donington-le-Heath” is a Guided Walk devised and led by the well known Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby, of Colin Crosby Heritage Tours.

Colin's walks are an enjoyable way of learning some Local History.

The starting point is outside the Manor House.

The walk takes in a couple of little known village centres, and some pleasant Leicestershire countryside near the industrial town of Coalville. The whole area is on the edge of the National Forest, and was formerly a coal mining centre.

Donington-le-Heath has always been a small settlement, and is best known for the 13th century Manor House, which is now open as a museum, and contains a bed which may have belonged to Richard III.

The route for this intriguing walk takes in Donington-le-Heath itself and the pleasant village centre of Hugglescote, before following the route of the old turnpike road between Leicester and Ashby-de-la-Zouch.

Then it’s down a lane to the tiny 12th century church of St. Mary at Snibston, before following field paths back to Donington-le-Heath.
