Cotes and Stanford-on-Soar (A Guided Walk in Stanford-on-Soar)
“Cotes and Stanford-on-Soar” is a delightful Guided Walk from Loughborough, on the borders of Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire, devised and led by Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby, of Colin Crosby Heritage Tours.
These walks are an enjoyable way of learning some Local History.
The walk starts outside Loughborough Railway Station, on the edge of the town off Nottingham Road. This is where Thomas Cook brought his first excursion, from Leicester, in 1841.
After a short stroll along the canal, the route crosses the River Soar at Cotes Bridge, and continues through the tiny village of Cotes, where there is a small deserted village site.
Then it’s on to Stanford-on-Soar, where there is a pretty parish church and an impressive viaduct carrying the Great Central Railway.
And then back across the Soar and a return to the station at Loughborough.
