Open Top Buses Return to Leicester
The big red Open Top tour buses are returning to Leicester this Summer.
A popular attraction in Leicester for the last few years, the buses feature live guides. Operating under the title “Discover Leicester Tour”, the buses were formerly owned and driven by Arriva, but an arrangement has now been made with Roberts Coaches of Hugglescote.
The tour takes approximately one hour, and takes in such highlights as Castle Park (the Old Town), the Jewry Wall Museum, the Golden Mile in Belgrave, the Great Central Railway, the National Space Centre and Abbey Park.
I must admit to having a soft spot for these tours, having had a lot to do with their early development and that of the guides.
And I think it’s reasonable to say that, while the buses can take you all around the city in an hour, you can get a much more intimate idea of aspects of Leicester’s history by joining one of my Guided Walks!
The fare for the Discover Leicester Tour is £6, with concessions £4 and a family ticket £14. Under fives travel free. This is an all day price, and it’s possible to hop on and hop off at will.
The season started on 27th May, with buses running every day until 4th June. Then it’s every weekend between 10th June and 9th July, and daily from 15th July to 29th August.
