Great Weekend in North East
My wife Anne and I recently spent a great weekend in the North East, staying with our son Kevin and his partner Laura atPrudhoe.
On the Friday, we travelled up to Prudhoe, stopping on the way at Wetherby Services.
On the Friday, we took the train into Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and then to the pleasant seaside resort of Whitley Bay.
From there we went on to Tynemouth, where we paid a visit to the extensive and impressive ruins of Tynemouth Priory on the headland.
We then walked along the coast to North Shields, where we had an excellent fish and chips meal at a restaurant on the quayside.
We caught the ferry over the Tyne to South Shields, then back by train to Newcastle and on to Prudhoe.
On the Sunday it was a train ride again, first to Newcastle, then on to Jarrow, visiting the ancient church and the abbey ruins, where the Venerable Bede lived and worked. We also visited the Bede`s World attraction, and the reconstructed Anglo-Saxon village.
Then on the Bank Holiday Monday we visited Ovingham first, then returned to Leicester by way of Wetherby again.
It was a very enjoyable and interesting weekend.
