Everybody Loved the Derbyshire Tour
A recent Coach Tour for Leicester people went down very well indeed. Entitled "Derbyshire Tour", it was a roam around the attractive county of Derbyshire.
As always, we started from St. Margarets Bus Station, and travelled up through Loughborough and Derby, and from there beside the lovely River Derwent to Belper and Wirksworth, before making our coffee stop.
This was at Carsington Water, where in addition to fine views there is a very good Visitor Centre with a cafe and restaurant.
From there we went to the attractive market town of Ashbourne, with its rare gallows inn sign and traditional gingerbread.
The next stage took us deeper into the Peak District, with the hills getting higher and the river valleys deeper, and arrived around lunchtime at the spa town of Buxton, where one can drink the famous water direct from a well.
From there we travelled Northwards through Glossop, and then through the spectacular Snake Pass to Ladybower Reservoir, and on to our last main stop, at Bakewell. This is one of my favourite small towns, and gives the opportunity to take home some of the famous Bakewell pudding.
On the way home, we passed Haddon Hall and Chatsworth, the Palace of the Peak, and went through Chesterfield and Bolsover, making a final coffee stop at Tibshelf Services.
Comments in my Visitors` Book included "enjoyed all three venues very much", "relived some happy memories - great", "beautiful weather and such beautiful countryside" and "grand day out - good to get off the beaten track".
