St. Pauls Church (Woodhouse Eaves)
St. Paul's is the parish church of the pretty Leicestershire village of Woodhouse Eaves, in Charnwood Forest.
It was built by William Railton in 1837 at the same time as another church in the forest, at Copt Oak. These and the slightly earlier church at Oaks-in-Charnwood were to serve the newer communities in the forest.
The nave and tower, using local slate, remain from the original church. The chancel was enlarged, together with the addition of a vestry, in 1870.
Ewan Christian added transepts in 1894.
The church sits dramatically over a cave, which can be reached from the street. Much of the building material for the church came from the cave.
