Fisher Gate (Sandwich)

The Fisher Gate is an old gateway in the ancient town of Sandwich in Kent.

It was part of the old Town Walls, and is the only one of the town gates to survive.

The lower half of the gate is made of flint and stone, and dates back to the late 14th century. It still retains its portcullis groove.

The upper half is of yellow brick, with red diaper work, and dates from 1571.

The Fisher Gate stands beside the River Stour.
