The High (Oxford)
The High is the usual colloquial name for the High Street in the university city of Oxford.
Dr. Nikolaus Pevsner referred to The High as "one of the world's great streets".
It runs in a gentle curve from the city's main crossroads, by the Carfax Tower, to Magdalen Bridge over the River Cherwell, beside Magdalen College.
The splendid Covered Market is on the North side, followed by Brasenose College, the historic St. Marys Church, All Souls College, The Queen's College and St. Edmund's Hall, with Magdalen College a little further on.
On the South side are Oriel College, University College and the Examination Schools, with Magdalen's Botanic Gardens by the bridge.
