Hardwick Hall (Hardwick)

Hardwick Hall is a historic house at Hardwick in Derbyshire.

It was built for Bess of Hardwick by the outstanding Elizabethan architect Robert Smythson in the late 16th century, between 1590 and 1597. Bess had been born in the neighbouring Hardwick Old Hall, now a ruin.

There are so many windows that it is often described as being "more glass than wall".

The house contains fine collections of furniture, tapestries and needlework from the period.

Hardwick Hall is now in the care of the National Trust.
