Abbey Gate (Cirencester)
The Abbey Gate at Cirencester is one of the oldest structures in this historic market town.
It was one of the Norman gateways to what was a magnificent Abbey, and is actually the only part of the Abbey, with the exception of some short streches of perimeter wall, to remain above ground.
There is an opening for wheeled traffic and a smaller one for those on foot.
It now leads into what is now a very pleasant public park, situated behind St. John the Baptist Church.
