Caernarfon Station (Caernarfon)
Caernarfon Station is an important location for tourism in the historic North Wales town of Caernarfon.
It is from this station that the Welsh Highland Railway runs steam trains to the foot of Snowdon, running to near Beddgelert.
There are plans, however, to extend the line as far as Porthmadog, to link up with the famous Ffestiniog Railway.
The station is situated beside the harbour, beneath the impressive walls of Caernarfon Castle.
Caernarfon was formerly on a branch line from Bangor, which closed in 1970. The line ran through a tunnel under the town centre, and this is now used for road traffic.
