St. James` Church (Burton Lazars)

St. James` is the parish church of the Leicestershire village of Burton Lazars.

There are two grey buttresses linked by a pointed arch, carrying a double bellcote with a saddleback rooof. The roof has a spirelet.

Much of the church dates back to the 13th century, although there is a little 12th century work.

The font is 14th century, and there is a fine collection of carved wooden musicians.

In the churchyard is the astonishing 20 foot high monument to William Squire, a local weaver who died in 1781. There are also some excellent Swithland slate gravestones.
