Wanlip

Wanlip is a very small village in Leicestershire, close to the much bigger Birstall and 4 miles to the North of Leicester.

It stands in water meadows beside the beautiful River Soar.

Our Lady and St. Nicholas Church, difficult to see from roads as it is surrounded by trees, dates from the 14th century. It contains the oldest brass inscription in English, dated 1393.

Watermead Park, a series of lakes formed from old gravel workings, can be accessed from Wanlip. Near the village, on King Lear's Lake, is a tableau of characters from Shakespeare's "King Lear" tragedy.

Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby is available to lead Guided Walks around Wanlip for groups.
