South Kilworth
South Kilworth is a village in Leicestershire, 4 miles from Lutterworth and on the border with Northamptonshire.
St. Nicholas Church dates back to the Norman period, and has a 12th century font. An effigy of St. Nicholas over the door was spared by Cromwell`s soldiers, against orders, as they thought it was Old Nick and were afraid of retribution.
Dr. William Pearson, Rector in the early 19th century, was a founder member of the Royal Astronomical Society. He built an observatory in the village, and his monument in the church features a depiction of a telescope.
