Launde
Launde is a site in Leicestershire, 6 miles from Uppingham.
It is not very accessible other than to small vehicles and on foot, being hidden away in the folds of the sparsely populated High Leicestershire.
Launde Abbey was an Augustinian priory until the Dissolution of the Monasteries. The fine 17th century house built afterwards is now used as a retreat by the Leicester and Peterborough dioceses.
A small hill nearby is the motte of a motte and bailey castle, dating from the Civil War period of Stephen's reign.
The earthworks of Sauvey Castle are not far away.
