Ilkeston
Ilkeston is a market town in Derbyshire, 8 miles from Derby, and close to the Nottinghamshire border.
It developed as a mining town and lace making centre in the 19th century.
St. Mary`s Church retains some of its original Norman work, and has a 14th century stone screen as well as Crusader tomb.
Erewash Museum is housed in a Georgian town house with pleasant gardens.
There is a twice weekly market, and a three-day fair in the Market Place in October which has taken place since 1252.
The actor William Roache (Ken Barlow in TV`s Coronation Street) was born at Ilkeston.
