Bangor
Bangor is an important town and cathedral city in North Wales, in the county of Gwynedd. It is on the Menai Strait and 8 miles from Caernarfon.
Bangor Cathedral is on a site which has been in continuous use for longer than any other in Britain, and was originally founded by St. Deiniol in the 6th century.
Today's building dates from the 13th century, and in the close is a garden featuring plants mentioned in the Bible.
Bangor Pier is a Victorian construction which has been renovated, and extends into the Menai Strait towards Anglesey.
Across the road from the cathedral is the University College of North Wales.
The group Fiddler's Dram, from Canterbury, had a Number One hit record in 1979 with "Day Trip to Bangor" ("Didn't we have a lovely time, the day we went to Bangor?")
Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby is available to lead Guided Walks around Bangor for groups.
