Thetford Forest Tour (A Coach Trip in Thetford Forest)
"Thetford Forest Tour" is a Coach Trip devised and led by the well known Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby, of Colin Crosby Heritage Tours.
These excursions are an ideal way of soaking up some Local History.
The coach leaves St. Margarets Bus Station in the centre of Leicester at 8am, and is expected back about 9.30pm.
This is an "Autumn Colours Tour". These tours are timed to show off thousands upon thousands of trees at their Autumnal best, when the leaves have turned to those wonderful shades of russet and gold.
Colin gives his usual inimitable commentary along the way, the factor which makes his trips quite unique.
The coach will wend its way through the lovely Thetford Forest, close to the sandy Breckland on the borders between Norfolk and Suffolk.
There are three stops, each of approximately an hour.
The first stop is at Brandon, where many houses show the importance of flint, which has been mined here since prehistoric times.
Then it's on to Thetford, an ancient town which was formerly a cathedral city, where the influential writer Tom Paine was born.
The last stop is at Bury St. Edmunds, a splendid market town where the cathedral has in the 21st century gained a new mediaeval style tower.
Other tours in the "Autumn Colours" series include Epping Forest Tour, New Forest Tour and Forest of Dean Tour.
