The Outwoods (A Guided Walk in Loughborough)
“The Outwoods” is a delightful Guided Walk in the country, devised and led by the well known Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby, of Colin Crosby Heritage Tours.
These strolls are an ideal way of soaking up some Local History.
The starting point is Moat Road Car Park, on the edge of Loughborough.
The walk consists of a gentle climb along an ancient track leading from Loughborough into Charnwood Forest, towards the Pocket Gate.
Along the way there are superb views across the valleys of the River Soar and the River Trent, and of Loughborough itself.
The walk continues with a stroll through The Outwoods, a piece of woodland which has been very popular with walkers for many years, and beside Jubilee Wood, which is growing in popularity. At this point, we are close to the settlement of Nanpantan, with its miniature reservoir.
Then, after admiring a magnificent granite outcrop, it’s back down the hill, by a different path, to Moat Road.
Colin leads a number of other walks in and from Loughborough, including “Loughborough”, “Victorian Loughborough”, “Waterside Loughborough”, “Waterside Loughborough and Barrow-upon-Soar”, “Waterside Charnwood”, “Mediaeval Loughborough”, “Street Names of Loughborough” and “Looking Up in Loughborough”.
