Loughborough (A Guided Walk in Loughborough)

“Loughborough” is a Guided Walk devised and led by the prolific Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby, of Colin Crosby Heritage Tours.

These strolls are an enjoyable way of soaking up some Local History.

Loughboroughis the largest town in Leicestershire, apart from Leicester itself. It is a market town, an industrial town and a University town.

The walk starts in the Market Place, beside the Fearon Fountain.

During the walk, the celebrated Carillon will be seen. Centrepiece of the lovely Queens Park, it is the only example in Britain of a Carillon being constructed as a War Memorial. The bells come from Loughborough’s John Taylor Bell Foundry, one of only two still working in the country.

The walk also encompasses the canal basin, and the original town centre around the parish church and manor house.

Loughborough can be reached by bus from Leicester and Nottingham, and by train from Leicester, Nottingham and Derby.
