Staffordshire Borders Tour (A Coach Trip in Staffordshire)

"Stafordshire Borders Tour" is a Coach Trip devised and led by the well known Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby, of Colin Crosby Heritage Tours.

These excursions are an excellent way of soaking up some Local History.

It is one of the morning trips, popular with people who do not want to be out all day, as they stay close to Leicestershire.

In this instance, it is a tour around the borders between Leicestershire and the neighbouring county of Staffordshire.

The coach leaves St. Margarets Bus Station, in Leicester City Centre, at 9.30am, and is scheduled to get back about 2pm.

These morning excursions have a well tried formula. One stays on the coach for most of the journey, while Colin gives his inimitable commentary. About halfway round, however, there is a stop somewhere nice, where tea, coffee, cakes etc can be bought.

Places in this area include Ashby-de-la-Zouch, the old market town where Sir Walter Scott set part of "Ivanhoe"; Burton-on-Trent, a famous brewing centre; Lichfield, the little cathedral city where Dr. Johnson was born; and Tamworth, another old market town which was once the capital of Mercia.

The National Forest straddles the border between Leicestershire and Staffordshire, and there is plenty of pretty countryside.
