Roman Roads Tour (A Coach Trip in Leicestershire)
"Roman Roads Tour" is a Coach Trip devised and led by the well known Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby, of Colin Crosby Heritage Tours. It is one of the morning trips, leaving at 9.30am and returning at about 2pm.
These trips are a most enjoyable way of soaking up some Local History. The morning trips are especially appreciated by those who would prefer not to be out all day.
The coach leaves from St. Margarets Bus Station in Leicester City Centre.
The format for these morning tours is that one stays on the coach for almost the entire journey, while Colin gives his inimitable commentary. About halfway round, however, there is a stop, where tea, coffee, cakes etc can be bought. This is always at a venue of some interest in its own right.
Some of the most famous of Britain`s Roman roads run through the local area.
The Fosse Way passes through Leicester on its way from Lincoln via the Cotswolds to Exeter.
Watling Street forms the county boundary between Leicestershire and Warwickshire, but was once an international frontier between English England and Danish England.
The Via Devana, known locally as the Gartree Road, runs between Leicester, one of the oldest towns in the country, to Colchester, the very oldest town .
