Prittlewell (A Guided Walk in Prittlewell)

"Prittlewell" is a Guided Walk devised and led by the well known Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby, of Colin Crosby Heritage Tours, who hails originally from this part of Essex.

These strolls are a most enjoyable way of soaking up some Local History.

The walk starts at Priory Park Gates, at the bottom of the Victoria Avenue hill in Prittlewell, the mother village of Southend.

Colin points out many places of interest.

Among these are the magnificent St. Marys Church (where Colin was himself baptised as a baby); Churchill Gardens, named in honour of Sir Winston Churchill; and the superb Priory Park, being essentially the grounds of the Cluniac Prittlewell Priory, and given to the people of Southend in 1917 by the local jeweller R. A. Jones.

Colin also discusses the discovery of the burial of an Anglo-Saxon King, the most important find of this period since Sutton Hoo.
