Market Harborough (A Guided Walk in Market Harborough)

"Market Harborough" is a Guided Walk devised and led by Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby, of Colin Cosby Heritage Tours, around this historic market town in Leicestershire.

These strolls are an enjoyable way of soaking up some Local History.

The walk starts at the War Memorial, at the bottom of the High Street in Market Harborough.

Colin's walk looks at various aspects of the town's heritage, pointing out that, although there is indeed plenty of history, it is actually much younger than a lot of places, having been deliberately created as a market town in the Middle Ages.

The impressive St. Dionysius Church, in the High Street, comes in for plenty of comment, including an explanation of why there has never been a churchyard.

Market Harborough was an important staging post in the days of the stagecoach, and there are still a number of coaching inns still functioning as places of refreshment.

Also featured on the walk are Thomas Cook, who was living here when he organised his historic first excursion from Leicester to Loughborough; Charles I and Prince Rupert, who held their council of war here before the Battle of Naseby; and the Symington's factory, home of the infamous Liberty Bodice.
