Essex Villages Tour (A Coach Trip in Essex)
The “Essex Villages Tour” is one of the Coach Trips devised and led by the well known Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby, of Colin Crosby Heritage Tours.
Colin's excursions are an enjoyable way of learning some Local History.
The tour is around the delightful and historic county of Essex, where every small town and village is worth seeing for its timeless quality, keeping Old England alive.
The coach leaves St. Margarets Bus Station in Leicester City Centre for this tour at 8am, and returns at about 9.30pm.
Colin gives his usual commentary along the way, pointing out places of interest and giving their stories in a way that makes his excursions unique.
There are three stops, of about an hour each.
Thaxted is famous for its magnificent parish church, where Gustav Holst was the organist, and for its timber framed Guiildhall.
Finchingfield is the most photographed village in England, seen on countless calendars, jigsaw puzzles and chocolate boxes, with its village green, duck pond and church rising in the background.
Dunmow is a bit bigger, and is well known for the Dunmow Flitch, given to couples who do not regret being married.
There is also a short stop at Borley , whose Rectory, burned down in th 1930s, was the most haunted house in England.
And of course the coach will also go through lots of other delightful villages, each with its weatherboarded, thatched and colourwashed cottages.
