Essex and Suffolk Tour (A Coach Trip in Essex)

[An image showing Essex and Suffolk Tour]"Essex and Suffolk Tour" is one of the very popular Coach Trips devised and led by Blue Badge Guide Colin Crosby, of Colin Crosby Heritage Tours.

These excursions are a most enjoyable way of learning some Local History.

This tour is around the lovely neighbouring counties of Essex and Suffolk.

If ever a region encapsulated the traditional image of Olde England, with its ancient market towns and pretty villages complete with perfect village greens, it is these two counties.

The coach leaves St. Margarets Bus Station in Leicester City Centre at 8am, and is expected back at about 9pm.

Colin gives his customary commentary along the way, bringing to life the fascinating sights and places encountered along the route. This is one of the aspects that make Colin`s trips quite unique.

There are three stops, each of about an hour.

Saffron Walden is a delighful old market town with an extraordinary number of listed buildings, as well as the ruins of castle and a rare turf maze. It takes its name from the saffron crocus grown here in the Middle Ages.

Maldon is an ancient maritime town founded by Edward the Elder at the head of the Blackwater estuary. All Saints Church has a unique triangular tower, there is a lovely park beside the river and the town is famous for its sea salt. The Battle of Maldon in 991 is the subject of the earliest known narrative poem in the English language.

Lavenham is as near perfect a small mediaeval town as one could wish to find, with its almost unbelievable collection of timber framed houses, including the Guildhall and the Swan Inn, and its majestic parish church.

There are also two short stops at villages regularly seen on calendars and chocolate boxes, Finchingfield and Cavendish.

The route also runs through a wonderful range of delightful Essex and Suffolk villages.
