Bank on Leicester (A Guided Walk in Leicester)
“Bank on Leicester” is a Guided Walk in Leicester City Centre devised and led by Colin Crosby, of Colin Crosby Heritage Tours, the well known Blue Badge Guide.
These walks are an enjoyable way of learning some Local History.
The walk starts outside the Town Hall, in Town Hall Square.
One of the many things for which Leicester is celebrated is its excellent Victorian architecture, and nowhere is this more evident than in its banks. The idea was to show that your money was safe, as the bank had plenty and could afford the finest architects.
“Bank on Leicester” looks at some of today’s banks, and at some of the excellent buildings that were built as banks.
Among these are the splendid Midland Bank (HSBC) in Granby Street, the NatWest in Granby Street and also the former NatWest in St. Martins.
